Parker (she/they) aka KWEEN WERK is an outspoken social media diva that focuses on environmental justice and social justice issues. Parker has a particular passion for equity and inclusion in conservation and outdoor recreation. Her interest in justice, accessibility, and equity issues developed from her personal experiences facing the unequal representation of people of color in environmental organizations. Parker tackles these complex issues by addressing them through head on activism and education.
As a leader at the intersection of culture and justice, Parker believes in using social media as a tool for social change. “ For people that have not always had a platform to hear their voices heard social media is and enormous game changer. As a woman, as a Black person, as a curvy hiker, as a mother, as a Black business owner, I stand at the intersection of multiple identities. It is important to me to not only shine a light on racism, ageism, sexism, heterosexism, and ableism; but to also give people tools for change.
KWEEN Werk is dedicated to disrupting the narrative that only white able-bodied people care about the environment and participate in outdoor recreation activities. KWEEN stands for Keep Widening Environmental Engagement Narratives. At KWEEN Werk we are challenging traditional representations of what it means to be outdoorsy by showing a variety of bodies engaged in outdoor spaces. Bodies of size, BIPOC bodies, Gender non-conforming bodies, Bodies with disabilities, etc. all deserve equal representation in the narratives we communicate about outdoor engagement. Are you a KWEEN? Welcome! Here you can Love the Planet and Be yourself.
